What makes Awaken Health different from
traditional medical clinics?

Awaken Health Direct Primary Care (DPC) takes an innovative approach where providers are compensated directly by their patients, rather than relying on insurance companies. This eliminates the middleman and the need for a high volume of patients, restoring the relationship between patient and physician. You can expect personalized, comprehensive medical care, shorter wait times, more time spent with your doctor, same/next day appointments, and after-hours access to your provider for urgent matters. Your no longer just another patient on a list of thousand, you are an important member of our family. Members have access to labs, medications, and imaging prices that are 80-90% less than insurance costs. DPC is a rapidly growing alternative to insurance-based care and has proven to result in better patient satisfaction while significantly reducing costs.

Do I need or should I keep my insurance?

While we do not require insurance with membership, we do recommend a health care coverage option for major or catastrophic expenses such as hospitalizations and surgery. You can potentially save thousands of dollars each year by combining our monthly membership with a low premium/high-deductible commercial plan or medical cost sharing plan. Medical Cost Sharing groups such as Sedera Health and Zion Health offer substantial discounts for members of Direct Primary Care typically at a fraction of insurance costs.

But I already pay for insurance, why pay an additional monthly fee?

You get what you pay for. Quality. Shown to save money by avoiding urgent care and ED visits and savings on labs and imaging. Better patient satisfaction and health outcomes. Direct communication with your doctor not office staff. 24/7 access to your doctor. Personalized, comprehensive medical care, shorter wait times, more time spent with your doctor, same/next day appointments, and after-hours access to your provider for urgent matters.

Will Awaken Health see me if I am not a member?

Yes, but please call our office for availability and pricing.

What makes DPC different from concierge medicine?

A concierge doctor charges a monthly/annual fee that is often much greater than that of DPC. the average concierge practice bills $200-300 per month. Additionally, they still charge copays, deductibles, and bill your insurance. We are transforming the model – concierge-style medicine, but for everyone else.

What if I’m healthy and rarely go to the doctor?

If so, great job! That’s the goal. Our purpose is to empower to you maintain good health and thrive both physically and mentally. Sometimes, however, you may have an urgent visit that requires antibiotics, sutures, or other treatments. This may be equal in cost to an annual membership and could have been prevented with an available DPC physician. Even healthy people can actually save money by choosing the DPC model by then being able to select a lower premium catastrophic insurance plan. Everyone benefits from a service tailored directly to them and over time we’ll build a comprehensive, intimate knowledge of your health and life providing an invaluable understanding for long-term care as you age. We believe that your healthcare spending will be much more valued with Awaken Health.

What if I need to see a specialist?

In the DPC model, we have more time to spend with our patients and should be able to handle at least 80% of your medical needs. In the event you need specialty care, our practice uses a service that provides direct access to specialists in all fields who can review your labs, imaging, and history to help make the best health decisions for you – at no cost to you. For HMO/PPO individuals, we work to find the best specialists within your network. For uninsured individuals, we identify specialists within our community who offer fair cash prices for their services.

Do you make house calls?

Yes! We charge $100 per house call. While there is no additional charge for visits in our office, we are happy to see you in your home. We usually reserve house calls for our patients who cannot leave their homes.

What if I want to cancel my membership?

You may cancel your membership with 30 days anticipation notice via letter or email after the first 90 days of your introductory membership period has passed.

Outside of paying for membership, medicine, or labwork/
x-rays, are there other fees I might have to pay?

Almost all of the routine procedures our provider performs have no additional charge to members. There are a few exceptions, for more complicated procedures or fees for pathology review of a biopsy.

Are there any medications Awaken Health does
not prescribe?

Our physicians do not manage or prescribe opioids for treatment of chronic pain. These medications are heavily regulated and require specialty care at a pain management center. Our providers do not prescribe controlled sedatives for anxiety or stimulants for attention deficit without proper psychiatric evaluation and documentation.

How do labs and imaging work?

We collaborate directly with nearby laboratories and imaging facilities to guarantee that you get the most affordable price when paying in cash. You can still use your insurance for laboratory tests, imaging, and medications, although you may find that cash rates may be cheaper. It is common that these very same facilities charge much higher rates when billing the insurance company to maximize their earnings. Consequently, you might end up with an undisclosed or unclear bill in your mailbox weeks later. At Awaken Health, you will always know the cost of care before making any decisions.

Can I be your patient if I am not a legal citizen?

Of course! Your legal status is not of importance to us. We provide comprehensive medical care to EVERYONE regardless of citizenship status, race, religion or political affiliation.
